YOU + YOUR COMMUNITY

PA Produce Month is for everyone! It's a time for CONSUMERS to support their local food and agricultural community, especially vegetable growers, by sourcing, preparing, and enjoying as much local produce as possible; for the MEDIA to run fresh and unique stories about the many hardworking individuals who keep PA's vegetable industry alive and well; for FARMERS to celebrate their achievements, host specials, events, and more.

A CELEBRATION

Established by the Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing & Research Program, PA Produce Month is a good ol' celebration of one of Pennsylvania's shining stars - vegetables! It encourages all Pennsylvanians - consumers, farmers, and the media - to express gratitude, excitement, and pride for 31 days out of the year when many local vegetables are in their prime, August!

Where?

STATEWIDE

PA Produce Month, as the name implies, occurs anywhere within Pennsylvania's borders. While the PVMRP coordinates special happenings each year to celebrate and support the special occasion, we hope that people and organizations in various communities across the state find a way to celebrate that's all their own. Don't hesitate to contact us for ideas!

When?

Acting as a brand ambassador by encouraging consumers to support PA vegetable farmers and purchase PA-grown vegetables.

AUGUST

The celebration kicks off August 1 and concludes on the final day of the month, August 31, but that doesn't mean you can't continue to support your local vegetable farmers all year long. In fact, there are tips, recipes, guides, and resources on paveggies.local to help you celebrate beyond this special month. The PVMRP starts preparing and releasing information as early as June. Make sure you're signed up for our e-newsletters for important reminders, updates, and the latest news.

PRODUCE PEAK

Pennsylvania's vegetable industry and community is an impressive force and deserves to be honored! In PA, August is an extremely bountiful time of year when many local vegetables are at peak freshness. The zucchini fields are overflowing and the tomatoes are perfectly tender and bursting with flavor, just to name a few. If you're proud of your great state and all the delicious vegetables it has to offer, then you're in favor of PA Produce Month celebrations!

SUPPORT LOCAL

The #1 way to support and celebrate PA Produce Month is to BUY LOCAL. Head to your farmers markets and roadside stands, explore CSA (community support agriculture) options, look for local signs at your grocery store, dine at restaurants with local sourcing practices, visit a farm, check out an auction, host a "vegiful" party, make plans to can and preserve the bounty...the list goes on! Check out our 2019 Press Release for additional ideas or contact us for more opportunities.
