You can’t talk about vegetable season in Pennsylvania without talking about sweet corn. So, in honor of PA Produce Month this August, the Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing & Research Program (PVMRP) went straight to a sweet corn pro, Brian Campbell of Brian Campbell Farms. After starting a farm stand at the ripe age of 14, Brian eventually expanded to a 2,000-acre diversified operation that grows pumpkins, sweet corn, broccoli, and other vegetables. His 400 acres of pumpkins are sold in Wal-Marts across the northeastern US and his sweet corn is direct marketed to Wal-Mart and Giant, and sold at his 35-year old farm stand, Farmer Moofy’s, near Bloomsburg, PA. With all that experience and knowledge under his belt, the PVMRP knew he’d be a great candidate for delivering the 411 on sweet corn’s life cycle. Ever wonder how that corn turns from a tiny seed into a delicious food? Some steps along the way may surprise you!
