Shopping and Prep Tips:
Select firm green sprouts.  Refrigerate in an open plastic bag.


Drop the sprouts into lukewarm water and leave them there for 10 minutes because preparing.  This will eliminate any insects hiding in the leaves!

Preparing your Brussels Sprouts

Steaming - Using a steamer, steam the brussels sprouts for 1-2 minutes.  Uncover and stir.  Then cover and steam for an additional 6-12 minutes.

Boiling - Use a cup of water for every cup of brussels sprouts.  Bring water to a boil and add the sprouts.  Bring water to boil again and cook the sprouts until tender.

Roasting - Preheat oven to 400F.  Coat brussels sprouts with oil and seasoning of your choice.  Place on baking sheet and put on middle shelf in the oven.  Roast for 30-40 minutes stirring (or shaking the pan) frequently.

Health experts recommend that the average American should:

  1. Choose a variety of vegetables each day to get a good mix of vitamins and minerals.
